Soulful Organisations: Three Guiding Questions for Innovative Organisations

Written by Aletta Simpson | Feb 7, 2024 11:00:41 AM

Companies that invest in robust interpersonal relationships are easy to collaborate with. In innovative organisations, employees are clear about the organisational goals, their personal and organisational identity, and they hold each other accountable to make an impact. This enables these organisations to easily adapt to client needs and build long-lasting and valuable relationships internally and with external clients.

At Praelexis, we believe that a focus on wellness and soulfulness is central to our success. Andre Kilian serves as our guide on this journey. Andre is the founder of BeSoulful, and he guides organisations towards soulfulness and what Zohar calls "spiritual intelligence." Through practical organisational rhythms and regular check-ins, Andre helps Praelexians discover their purpose, identity, and impact on a personal and organisational level. What are the characteristics of a soulful organisation? They can answer three questions:

  1. Why do we do what we do?
  2. Who are we as an organisation?
  3. How can we make a positive difference in the world we live in?

Purpose:

At Praelexis, we believe in purpose beyond profit. This involves articulating why we do what we do to keep ourselves accountable for these goals. For example, at Praelexis, we believe in crafting Responsible AI, and we align ourselves with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. In practice, this might involve declining deals from companies we are uncomfortable working with.

Identity:

At Praelexis, our identity is linked to our people, or as we like to call ourselves, Praelexians. We have a collaborative structure that empowers us to innovate and be creative. We work in a distributed fashion as this helps us maintain healthy lives. We are real people who work together towards crafting AI tools that make a contribution. In practice, one of the ways we take care of our wellness is through organisational rhythms that Andre facilitates. This includes, but is not limited to, soulful conversations with Andre, culture conversations (6 groups of random employees are gathered to speak about culture and purpose), and a mid-year check-in with each employee. At Praelexis, the people are seen as more than simply a resource, and these rhythms are one of the ways in which we acknowledge that.

Impact:

The impact a soulful organisation has is the product of a well-defined purpose and identity. What is important is how we measure our impact. One of the ways in which impact is measured and acknowledged is through thoughtful dialogue and check-ins. The soulful rhythms are not only important for defining our purpose and honouring our people but also for keeping each other accountable for our goals.

In conclusion….

The essence of soulful organisations lies in their commitment to purpose, identity and positive impact. Praelexis exemplifies these principles thorugh a focus on wellness, guided by Andre Killian’s expertise. The three guiding questions—Why do we do what we do? Who are we as an organization? How can we make a positive difference?—serve as pillars shaping the company's character. In a nutshell:

  • Praelexis believes in a purpose beyond profit,
  • maintains a distinctive identity as Praelexians,
  • and actively pursues a meaningful impact through Responsible AI aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

The organisational rhythms, facilitated by Andre, not only help define purpose and honour individuals but also foster accountability for shared goals. In this holistic approach, Praelexis invites those who share these values to join or collaborate, emphasising a genuine commitment to purpose-driven, soulful endeavours.
